Initial Steps in Removing Adware and Spyware from Your Computer

Having an unknown adware and spyware program lurking within your computer can be quite a frustrating experience for users.  One will know easily that their PC is infected with some type of adware due to the presence of unsolicited advertisements popping up on their screen. More than likely, your PC is infected with either an adware or spyware that is why it’s best to clean up your system as soon as possible. In some cases an adware/spyware program are designed to keep track of a user’s habits and in turn, sends this information back to the company responsible for this program. This way, the ads popping up on your screen are based on your interests. More often, a user is asked first whether it is okay to install this program on your computer.  The worst thing that can happen is when this program is designed to steal information from your system without your permission.

Here are some of the steps you can take on an infected computer:

 

1. Disconnect the infected PC from the Internet. To do this, just simply turn off your modem/router or unplug the power cord from the socket or Ethernet cable from the back of your tower/laptop.

2. You may try uninstalling these adware through your Control Panel >> Programs and Features (Also Add/Remove Programs) >> select the program >> right click then select Uninstall. After which you need to restart your computer so the changes will take effect. Even when you are not prompted to restart, you still need to do so anyway.

3. If uninstalling the adware and/or spyware from your computer through Add/Remove Programs does not work, try removing these using your antivirus software. You will need to run a full or complete scan on your computer and see if the antivirus detects the program then remove it. In order to detect new variants or other types of malware, your antivirus software must be up-to-date. No need to worry if you currently have no antivirus software installed on your PC. Here’s a list of anti-virus software that we highly recommend that aren’t too costly but works effectively especially in detecting and removing adware and spyware.

4. There are actually several removal tools online that are free yet successfully remove various types of adware/spyware from your computer. You can use any or all of these tools and allow them to run on your computer: Microsoft Safety Scanner, Malwarebytes, Ad-Adware, and ESET online scanner. You will need to check on the technical specs required for each of these tools for them to work.
