How to Enable File and Printer Sharing in Windows 7

If you want to enable file and printer sharing in Windows 7, just follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select the Start Menu button >> Control Panel >> then Network and Sharing Center.

Step 2: Select the option Choose homegroup and sharing options >> then click Change advanced sharing settings…

Step 3: Under Advanced sharing settings window >> select Turn on network discovery which allows your computer to see other PCs and devices on the network, and at the same time, your PC can be seen by other computers >> also select Turn on file and printer sharing which will allow the files and printers you share from your PC accessible to anyone on the network. You may also select Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders. If you want to setup a password, you need to select Turn on password protected sharing.

Step 4: Don’t forget to click Save Changes to save your new settings.

Step 5: Next, go to the folder you want to share, right click and select among these options under Share with: Homegroup (Read), Homegroup (Read/Write), or Specific people… Homegroup (Read) option allows you to share the folder but others won’t be able to edit it. Homegroup (Read/Write) is the option you choose if you prefer others to be able to access the folder/folders and modify them as well. Specific people…, on the other hand, is the option you choose if you want to specify which people will have access to the folders you shared.

Step 6: Go to Start menu >> select Devices and Printers >> right click on the printeryou want to enable sharing then select Printer Properties >> go to Sharing tab >> make sure to place a check on Share this printer and add a name under Share name >> click Apply >> then OK.
